The Visiting Medical Officers’ Journals, Series ID 989, relate to boys’ reformatories in Queensland, including Westbrook, Diamantina Reformatory, Lytton Reformatory, and the Hulk ‘Proserpine’ Reformatory . They provide a record of medical attention provided to boys in the institutions during the periodic visits made by the Visiting Medical Officer. Information recorded in the Journals includes: date (of medical examination), name of boy, nature of the illness, treatment administered, and the initials of the Visiting Medical Officer. Formulas or ‘recipes’ for some of the medicines are recorded at the rear of the journals. There are four journals in total in this series, covering the dates 1873-1902, 1962-1966, 1970-1986, and 1984-1990.
