Until 1960, medical services were provided to boys at Westbrook by a Visiting Medical Officer who travelled from Toowoomba to Westbrook periodically (fortnightly, monthly, or only on an as-needs basis).
From 4 December 1960, first aid and basic medical attention was made available on a daily basis with the appointment of a resident Matron (a qualified nursing sister). The regular fortnightly visits by the Visiting Medical Officer continued, and emergency treatment was still carried out at the Toowoomba General Hospital until the reformatory was closed in 1994.
This series records the daily observations made by the Matron in terms of the general condition of inmates, any health problems, psycological state of the boys, and any medications being taken. Information recorded includes: date, name of boy, officer's observations. At the rear of the register is a month-by- month list of accidents in which boys were injured (from January 1990 - July 1990). Details recorded include: accident number, name of boy, nature of injury, cause of injury, and action taken.
