The Youth Justice Board was established on 2 April 2014 by the Minister for Corrective Services, Western Australia, to oversee the work of the youth justice division of the Department for Corrective Services, engage with the community, particularly the Aboriginal community, around youth justice issues and ensure continuous improvement in youth detention. The Board is chaired by the Commissioner of the Department of Corrective Services.
In 2017, the Department of Corrective Services merged with the Attorney-General's Department to create the Department of Justice.
