This article tells the story of Amelia Smith, who endured years of abuse while living at Melbourne Orphanage in Brighton. Her time in 'care' also included stints at Winlaton and Parramatta Girls' Home in NSW. Amelia describes the forced adoption of her daughter born in 1959, and the ongoing legacy of her experiences in institutional 'care'. The article discusses Amelia's involvement with the group CLAN and her experience accessing her records, which are held by OzChild. The article includes a photo of the orphanage buildings in Brighton, which were demolished in 1963.
