Description
In late November 1914 The Sydney Morning Herald went to Mittagong Farm Home and Mittagong Cottages at the invitation of Sir Charles Mackellar, outgoing president of the State Children's Relief Board, to investigate claims made by Archbishop Kelly that the care provided at Westmead Boys' Home was more 'home like' than that at Mittagong, which was likened to a prison. The visit was not communicated to any staff members of the State Children's Relief Board.
The resulting report is highly complimentary about the home.
