The Care and Protection of Children Act 2007 (Act No. 36/2007) was passed on 12 December 2007 and commenced on 7 May 2008. Its full title is 'An Act about the care and protection of children, and for related purposes'. It was amended in 2009 and 2011.
The objects of the Act were to promote the wellbeing of children, protection of children from harm and exploitation and to maximise their opportunities to develop to their full potential. It futher aimed to support families and persons with responsibilities for children in their care for children's wellbeing.
