Convalescent Homes were Homes for children recovering from illness or injury. Many children were transferred to a convalescent Home after discharge from hospital. Seaforth Home at Somerton was the first dedicated government convalescent Home for children in South Australia. It was established in 1921. Many of the children placed there were outpatients from the Adelaide Children's Hospital.
