Mothercraft Nurse (1947 - )

From
1947

A mothercraft nurse was trained to look after babies and toddlers.

Details

The Mothercraft Nurses Registration Act of 1947 provided for the registration of mothercraft nurses if they were healthy, of 'good character' and had undertaken a course in the care of young children. Qualified mothercraft nurses could work in institutions or in private homes.

Mothercraft nurses undertook a fifteen month training course at the Mothercraft Home. The government discontinued these in 1986 because TAFE Tasmania ran a child care course.
