The Applications and Associated Correspondence for Compassionate Allowances contains case files of individuals who applied for financial assistance from the state government. Since poverty often led to children becoming wards of state, these files may contain valuable information for some Care Leavers and their families.
Closed D75
D75 means these files are closed for 75 years from the date of the last entry in them. However, people with a personal interest in the files will be able to obtain access by contacting the Department of Health and Human Services.
The case files contain personal details such as the name of the individual, where they lived, their place of birth, occupation, earnings, name of husband or wife, and children's names and dates of birth. They may also include information about the situation that led to the need for help, rent paid, and whether or not relatives were able to help support the applicant.
