'Children of the Empire' was published in 1982, so it is one of the earliest accounts that critically examined child migration from Britain to Australia. Its author, Dame Gillian Wagner, was Chairman of Barnardos and the Thomas Coram Foundation and led the British Review into Residential Care 1985-1988.
