Description

'Motion - Child Welfare Department. Maintenance of Children' is an excerpt from the digital copies of the Parliamentary Debates (Hansard) of the Legislative Assembly of the Western Australian Parliament. It documents a debate about increasing subsidies to Children's Homes and raising the subsidised age from 14 to 15 years. The motion was passed (p.2565) but implementation was subject to Government approval. The debate reports that the recommendation to raise subsidies to Farm Schools that was made by the Royal Commission on Youth Employment and the Apprenticeship System in 1938 had not yet been implemented. Sister Kate's Children's Cottage Home at Queen's Park and the Swan Boys' Orphanage are also described. See pages 2562-2565 of the excerpt.
