Supporting Parent's Benefit (1977 - )

The Supporting Parent's Benefit was a Commonwealth allowance that extended income support to single fathers as well as mothers, provided the child was a biological child of the supporting parent. In December 1983, eligibility was extended to single parents who 'had obtained legal custody of a qualifying child'.
