The Adoption of Children Act Amendment Act (No. 2) 1953 enabled a child born outside Australia but adopted in WA to have their adoption registered here as a new birth entry. This had the effect of breaking the link between the child's origins and his or her new identity, as it had for Australian-born children who were adopted after 1945.
