The Mental Health Act 1993 (Act No.59/1993) was passed on 27 May 1993 and commenced 6 March 1995. Its long title was 'An Act to make provision for the treatment and protection of persons who have a mental illness; to repeal the Mental Health Act 1977; to amend the Adoption Act 1988, the Administration and Probate Act 1919, the Aged and Infirm Persons' Property Act 1940 and the Consent to Medical and Dental Procedures Act 1985; and for other purposes'. It was repealed in 2009 by the Mental Health Act 2009, which commenced on 1 July 2010.
