Cockburn House was established in 1989 by the Cockburn Youth Services Association to provide emergency accommodation services for young people (male and female). A sub-program of the Commonwealth/State funded Supported Accommodation Assistance Programme (SAAP), it closed in 1993.
It was located in the municipal area of Cockburn, possibly in the suburb of Coolbellup. At that time, it was described as having a 24-hour emergency accommodation service, with rostered staff. Young people could be assisted to find longer term accommodation in the area. In its annual report, 1989, the Department for Community Services wrote that Cockburn House was ‘being well used, enabling young people to stay in their local environment.’
