The Elim Maternity Hospital Register of Babies dates from 1927 to 1970. It includes the date of birth, where born, the date of discharge, a summary of the baby’s health status on discharge, for instance, ‘good’ or ‘fair’. It also includes the outcome, that is, adopted, fostered or sent home with mother, and the future address.
Access to personal information in these records is subject to conditions to protect the privacy of individuals. Care Leavers wishing to access these records should contact the Adoptions and Permanency Services.
In 2020, the whereabouts of these records are not clear and research is being conducted to clarify the situation. In 2014, Find & Connect was advised that the records were with DHHS and were in the process of being transferred to the Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office. However, in 2020 Find & Connect was advised that these records were not in the collection of the Tasmanian Archives. The location of these records is currently unknown. This website will be updated with accurate and up-to-date information about these records as soon as it is available.
