This series contains 43 report books recording daily observations made by staff of children in their care. There are three different types of report book in this series – infants (babies up to 2 years old); 2 year olds; and an isolation book recording information about children isolated due to medical conditions. Observations were made and recorded during the day, in the evening, and at night.

Information typically recorded in these reports about individual children includes the child’s name, date of observation, notes on their health and general condition, any medications they are receiving, dietary restrictions, behaviour, sleeping patterns, visits by parents/foster parents, hospital and doctor’s appointments, haircuts, birthdays, immunisations, and transfers between wards. Notes are also made for children admitted, discharged, or in hospital on a given day. Extra information is included for new admissions, including where the child has come from, name of the person who brought them in for admission, the child’s date of birth, weight, injections received, religion, whether christened, and their parent’s names and addresses.
