Stewart Cottage Family Group Home

Stewart Cottage Family Group Home, in Toombul, was operated by the Methodist and Uniting Churches. It officially opened 13 October 1962. Management was transferred to the newly-created Uniting Church 22 June 1977. According to the publication, Missing Pieces (2001), it transitioned from a Family Group Home to a Receiving, Assessment, Placement and Therapy residential around 1989. Stewart Cottage Family Group Home closed in 1993.

Stewart Cottage officially opened 13 October 1962 and was licensed under The State Children Act 1911 in 1962, and The Children’s Services Act 1965 on 4 August 1966.

Stewart Cottage Family Group Home closed after continual neighbourhood complaints. The Uniting Church also decided that security in the old building was not at a satisfactory standard for a residential facility. The residents were moved to Kingsbury.
