The Master and Servant Act 1882 has the full title ‘An Act to amend The Master and Servant Act 1856 ‘(Act no. 46 Vict. No.18). This amendment empowered servants to terminate their own employment and employers to terminate their servants with one weeks’ notice. This amendment only applied to servants whose period of service was indefinite. This amendment also sets out requirements for pay of servants who fit this category and choose to leave their work or are let go by their employers. This legislation was repealed by Statute Law Revision Act 1934 (25 Geo. V no.78) on 31 May 1938.
