The Records of the St Saviour’s Children’s Home and St Saviour’s Cottage Home is a collection containing records dated between 1929 and 1994, relating to St Saviour’s Children’s Home, St Saviour’s Neighbourhood Centre, St Saviour’s Cottage and Anglicare’s Adolescent Program. It contains various records about children admitted to St Saviour’s, and about the administration of the Homes and programs.

Access Conditions

The Diocesan Registrar has an open approach to access to records in this collection, only diocesan restrictions apply. Proof of identity is required, there is no written form to fill in and no fee is charged for finding information.

Records

This archival collection can be broken down into the following archival series or groups of records:

Admission and discharge registers (1929 – 1951)

This archival series contains three registers relating to St Saviour’s Children’s Home dated between 1929 and 1951.The registers contain the following information: name of child; date of birth; date of admission and date of discharge. In addition some of the entries have the following information: place of birth; whether baptised; religion; parents’ names and occupation; why admitted; illnesses; and some information about discharges.

Individual case files (1970 – 1994)

This archival series contains records relating to St Saviour’s Children’s Home, later known as St Saviour’s Cottage Home, and the St Saviour’s Adolescent Program. The records are mostly individual case files dated from 1970 to 1994.

The content of the files varies in type and detail, and may include: referral information; parent placement agreement; case conference records; information sheets; and case history reports. The later files, from 1986-94 may also include: admission and discharge reports; court reports; psychological reports and after care reports.”

Notification of reception (1950 – 1964)

This archival series contains records relating to the St Saviour’s Children’s Home. In particular it is made up of one Register with entries dated between 1950 and 1964. The register contains the following information: name of child; date and place of birth; dates of admission and discharge; religion; why admitted; condition of mother and if able to support child; and the amount of maintenance paid.

List of State Wards and Holiday Foster Carers (1961 – 1964)

This series is comprised of a list of names of Wards of the State residing at St Saviour’s Children’s Home, and the names of Foster Carers who hosted them on holidays.

General Correspondence (1929? – 1982?)

This series contains the general correspondence files for St Saviour’s Children’s Home. The files may contain references to individual children, as well as administrative information about the Home.

Register of Illnesses (1941 – 1952)

The Register of Illnesses is a record from St Saviour’s Children’s Home with information dating from 1941 to 1952.

Alphabetical List of Children (1929 – 1930)

This series comprises of an alphabetical list of children living at St Saviour’s Children’s Home between 1929 and 1930.

Duplicate Book of Admissions (1943 – 1948)

This book contains information about children admitted to St Saviour’s Children’s Home between 1943 and 1948. It is likely a duplicate of the Admissions Register for that period.

Letters of Approval to Admit Children (1962 – 1964)

This series consists of letters containing approvals for the admission of children to St Saviour’s Children’s Home. The letters date from 1962 to 1964.
