Ballarat Children's Homes and Family Services was the new name given in 1984 to the former Ballarat Children's Home. The name change reflected shifts in philosophy and practice in the provision of 'care', away from the organisation's origins as the Ballarat District Orphan Asylum. In 1998, the name changed again to Child and Family Services Ballarat.
