The Presbyterian Church of Australia was formed in 1901, shortly after Federation. Representatives from the Presbyterian Church formed part of the board of management which ran Morialta Protestant Children's Home 1924-1972, Toorak Gardens Boys' Hostel 1967-1972, and Morialta Children's Homes Incorporated 1972-1974. The Presbyterian Church was also responsible for the running of the Ernabella Mission from 1937 until 1970. In 1977, about two-thirds of the Presbyterian Church's membership became part of the Uniting Church in Australia. A smaller Presbyterian Church continued to operate after 1977.
