Access Conditions

People who experienced 'care' through UnitingCare West (and their families) may be able to get access to records in this Archival Collection. You may be required to provide proof of identity before accessing these records to protect the privacy of the individuals who may be mentioned in them.

Records

In 2013 and 2014, UnitingCare West undertook a project to collate and digitise its record collection, including photographs. It may be possible to identify more records than were previously available for Children's Homes and out-of-home care programs related to UnitingCare West and the earlier agencies of the Uniting Church. You are encouraged to apply or, if you have applied previously to this project, to do so again.

The types of records currently held by UnitingCare West vary in the amount of detail they contain, but the collection as a whole includes:

  • Admission notes
  • Birth Certificates
  • Agency correspondence to families
  • Letters from children/families
  • Financial statements
  • Correspondence from state welfare authorities
  • Case and file notes
  • Medical records
  • School reports and records
