The Golden Mile Youth Hostel was established in Kalgoorlie in 1989 and was run by a private committee of management. At that time it provided crisis relief and medium term accommodation to young men aged 15-25 years. By 1995, Golden Mile offered emergency accommodation only. It closed in 1999 and the building was re-opened later that year by Crossroads West’s Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Accommodation Service.

The Golden Mile Youth Hostel was a service that began around 1989 as part of the Youth Supported Accommodation Program, which was a sub-program of the Commonwealth/State funded Supported Accommodation Assistance Programme (SAAP). In 1989, the service was located in Kalgoorlie in a converted school house and it provided crisis relief and medium-term accommodation to young men aged 15-25 years. In 1995, it was described as aiming to provide a home-like lifestyle for young men in the 15-24 age group who were homeless so that they could develop life skills to gain employment and move to independent living.

Golden Mile closed in 1999 and the premises were re-opened later that year by Crossroads west’s Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Accommodation Service.
