Details

Karratha Youth Housing began in 1987 to provide alternative accommodation for youth in the Karratha region. In 1995, known as Karratha Youth Development Service, it offered emergency accommodation for up to eight young people. In 2001, known as Karratha Youth Housing Project Inc (KYHP), it provided supported accommodation to young people who were homeless, at imminent risk of homelessness or requiring transitional accommodation services. KYHP closed in 2008.

Karratha Youth Housing began in 1987 as part of the Youth Supported Accommodation Program, which was a sub-program of the Commonwealth/State funded Supported Accommodation Assistance Programme (SAAP). By 1995, it was known as the Karratha Youth Development Service (KYDS) and was described as providing services to young people to help them move towards independent living and achieve other life goals.

In 2001, KYDS was known as Karratha Youth Housing Project Inc (KYHP) and was running an all-hours service from Goodwyn Place, providing supported accommodation for young people aged 15-25 years. Priority was given to youth who were referred by the departments responsible for child welfare. There was room for up to eight young people in crisis accommodation, and two more places for transitional accommodation.

In May 2008, the service closed.
