Loreto Family Group Home

Details

Loreto Family Group Home was opened in Taroona in 1966 by the Sisters of Charity. It provided cottage accommodation to seven children who had been placed there by their parents or who were wards of the state. Loreto was established to support the Sisters of Charity’s move away from institiutional care to cottage care. The Home was originally managed by St Joseph’s Orphanage, then St Joseph’s Child Care Centre. From 1978 Centacare ran Loreto. Loreto closed in 1982.

Loreto Family Group Home was a single storey 10 roomed brick house with an iron roof. The walls were plaster and the floors wooden.

Loreto had two home mothers and seven children were accomodated.
