TINOCA (Youth Futures WA)

TINOCA was established in 1988 to provide crisis accommodation for youth in the northern suburbs of the Perth metropolitan area. Throughout it’s history it has been managed by a private management committee.

TINOCA (Teenagers in need of crisis accommodation) is run by a private committee of management. It opened on 27 March 1988 with funding provided through the Youth Supported Accommodation Program, which was a sub-program of the Commonwealth/State funded Supported Accommodation Assistance Programme. In 1989, it was described as an emergency accommodation service that enabled young people to stay in their local area when unable to live at home. By 1995, TINOCA was providing short-term, emergency accommodation and support for a transition to independent living for young people aged 14-19 years. At this time, it was also known as the Wanneroo Youth Accommodation Service.

In 1995, the Wanneroo Youth Accommodation Service’s Funding Agreement with the Department outlined the purpose of the funded services, the service objectives and performance indicators: The purpose of the service was “to provide emergency, short term accommodation to young people in crisis from 14 to 19 years of age and assist their transition into independent living.”

In November 2000, TINOCA was also known as the Joondalup Youth Support Services, in recognition of the change in local government boundaries from Wanneroo to Joondalup and to reflect the relocation of TINOCA’s administration office to Lotteries House at Joondalup.
