Unit Living, Marion

Unit Living, Marion, was opened at Sturt by the government in 1974. It was a group of five self-contained units designed to allow young adults under the care of the Department to live independently as they transitioned from senior school into work. In 1990 Unit Living, Marion, became known as the Sturt Community Unit.

Unit Living , Marion, was opened by the Department of Community Welfare on 9 December 1974. It consisted of a group of five self-contained units situated on Diagonal Road, Sturt. Unit Living was designed to allow young adults under the care of the Department for Community Welfare to live independently.

The 1975 Annual Report from the Department said of Unit Living, Marion that:

Care and accommodation is provided there for senior school students expected to move into the workforce within about 12 months. The young people living there have shown a capacity to carry on their responsibilities in a supervised situation.

Unit Living, Marion, commonly known as Marion Flats, continued to operate until 1990. It then became known as the Sturt Community Unit.
