The first cottage Home in Tasmania seems to have been the government-run Cottage house established in Edward Street, Glebe in 1943. Clarendon Children's Homes began to change over to cottage Home care in 1953. By the 1970s, Glenara Children's Home, St Joseph's Child Care Centre, and Rosebank Cottage for Disabled Children offered cottage accommodation. Kennerley Children's Homes continues to offer cottage accommodation.
