The Southern Region Admission Unit (SRAU) was opened by the government on the site of the former Clark Cottage at Clarence Park in 1979. It provided emergency care for up to eight children between the ages of 10 and 17. In 1989-90 the admission unit became the Clarence Park Assessment Unit.
The Southern Region Admission Unit (SRAU) was opened by the Department for Community Welfare at 28 William Street, Clarence Park in 1979. This was the site of the former Clark Cottage.
After the passing of the 1972 Community Welfare Act, the department was restructured and the management of residential care was decentralised. The metropolitan area was divided into regions and each region was provided with a similar group of facilities for a smaller group care. In keeping with a new focus on assessment of children after they were admitted into care and developing individual programs for children, each region had an Admission Unit, a Community Unit and a Group Home. Admission Units, like the Southern Region Admission Unit provided short term care, assessment and outreach facilities for young offenders. The SRAU accommodated up to eight teenagers at one time and was often used for emergency placement of children.
In 1990 the Southern Region Admission Unit became the Clarence Park Assessment Unit.
